Unit 8 Two Beneficial Practices

After reviewing the exercises and practice sessions that I have completed in this course my favorite two were Subtle Mind and Visualization especially the “Meeting Asciepius” exercise.

I can implement the Subtle Mind practice in my personal life to foster “mental fitness” by actually listening to my Dacher CD in the mornings before getting ready for work.  This would seem like an especially good time since my daughter would still be asleep and my mind less busy.  What can be a better start to my day?  Eventually, I will add more Subtle Mind CD’s to start a collection that I will be able to use in my professional future.

I would love to practice the “Meeting Asciepius” exercise at least once or twice a week focusing on a different person who fits the necessary description for this exercise.  I have at least 2 or 3 more people whose wisdom and qualities I admire.

Being able to train our minds with contemplative practices and attending to our inner experiences we commence to transforming ordinary mental and physical health into mental and physical wellness.

  1. Hi Myra,
First I had a hard time finding your blog. In your URL you forgot to put .blogspot.com but hey I made it which I am very happy about so I can read your blogs.

I have to agree that participating in any of these exercises will provide the best results if done first thing in the morning. I have tried them in the evenings and my mind is so busy it is hard to focus.
I have found that these exercises has made me a more loving and compassionate person. I look at others now and I want to get rid of their suffering and provide them with loving-kindness especially the kids on my school bus. So many of them are hurting and suffering in so many different ways.

Being able to acquire a calm mind, wisdom and inner peace will put us on our road to integral health and human flourishing.

I wish to the best on your journey to integral health and human flourishing.

  2. Hi Myra,
I think you make a good point concerning morning being the best time to meditate. I have only meditated in the morning once and I had good results. The rest of the time I have been doing the exercises in the late afternoon, and this just happens to be the time of day that I get tired. Needless to say I have spent quite a few sessions sleeping through them! I have made it a goal to redo the ones I struggled with during the morning hours to see if I have better results. Meeting Asclepius was a favorite of mine as well. I tried to focus on my dad but my grandfather wanted center stage. I am curious as to whether you will be able to visualize who you wish.
